St Joseph’s prides itself on its staff who work tirelessly every day to provide the best education for our pupils. The curriculum is designed in a way that builds on learning each and every day and it’s essential that children attend regularly to achieve their potential. There is clear research nationally that shows that young
people with high attendance achieve better academic outcomes. There is also evidence that they have better social and emotional development, personal resilience and stronger friendship groups which have lasting benefits.

The school will monitor attendance (including lateness and/or patterns of absence) and ensure quick and early intervention if a problem is identified.  All staff will encourage good attendance and will liaise with the headteacher if a problem is identified.

Punctuality is a key part of good attendance and will be monitored in the same way to ensure every child maintains a good standard of attendance.

The school day begins promptly at 8:45am.

LATE ARRIVAL

If your child arrives late, the gates will be closed and they will need to enter school via the school office. We will require a reason for late arrival.

ABSENCE

All absences need to be reported to the school office on the first day of illness and any subsequent days that they do not attend school. You can speak to a member of the team directly or you can leave a message on the absence line. You will need to state your child’s name, year group, teacher and the reason they are unable to attend that day. The telephone number is 01332 361660.

If your child has any diarrhoea or vomiting, as per Public Health Agency England guidelines, your child must remain at home for 48 hours following the most recent episode.

If your child is off with illness for more than 3 consecutive days, then you may be asked to provide evidence from a health practitioner.

MEDICAL/DENTAL APPOINTMENTS

Please try to book medical and dental appointments outside of school hours. If this is not convenient, inform the school office at the earliest notice. You may be required to bring evidence of the appointment.
